by Flickroom Team on Mar.09, 2010, under Announcements, Flickroom in News
17th February - It was a big day for Flickroom team! Thanks to Cris Stoddard of Flickr team for featuring Flickroom on the Flickr official blog. You can find the post here: http://blog.flickr.net/en/2010/02/17/flickroom-chat-browse-upload-share/
Excerpt below:
Flickroom is an application that brings Flickr to your desktop, allowing you to browse and search photographs of yours, your contacts, and the Flickrverse. Your photos never looked better against a black background! Once you authenticate Flickroom to your account, you can not only manage your own content but you can also leave comments on great photos or make them your favorites.
But one of the neatest things about Flickroom is that you can chat, live, with other Flickr members while you’re viewing fantastic content!
There’s more, too. This application allows you to upload photos to your photostream. You can tag and set permissions on your photos as well as add them to sets and to groups.
Thank you for all your support and feedback dear Flickroomers! You rock!

Version 0.24 Beta Now Live!
by Flickroom Team on Oct.09, 2009, under Announcements, Contests
Flickroom Team is back with a new update to provide you an even better Flickr experience! This update is aimed at making Flickroom accessible to more and more users in an easy and slick manner. Read on to find out all the new goodies in Version 0.24 Beta [available for download via http://www.flickroom.org/]:
- Anonymous Access - Flickroom now provides you an option to use the application without requiring login (authenticating the application). You will be able to access all features of Flickroom except the following:
- Commenting and Uploading Tools
- Viewing Recent Activity
To access Flickroom anonymously, click on the “No, I want to use Flickroom without my login” button. If you are already logged in, you will need to logout first and then try out this mode.
- WebShare - So you have been enjoying the Flickroom experience to browse your Flickr photos in a whole new way. Well, how about sharing the same cool experience with your friends who are not using Flickroom or even Flickr! Following are two ways to showcase your photos the Flickroom way:
- Just pass on the following link to your friends and relatives:
- Otherwise, you can create a webshare widget by clicking on “Create a Webshare” button (available in the application’s status bar at the bottom). It will generate an HTML code snippet which would allow you to embed Flickroom view (as a Flash widget) in a webpage.
- Just pass on the following link to your friends and relatives:
- Slideshow - A basic slideshow feature is now available while viewing photos (in photostream, sets and group pools)
- Search Tool - There is now a search tool in the following modules - Sets, Groups and Contacts. Also, all of them are now sorted alphabetically by default.
- Image Caching Setting - There is now a setting in the Settings Manager which allows you to enable/disable caching of all the photos that Flickroom shows in different places. This setting is turned OFF by default. Switching it ON would result in extremely fast loading of images that you have seen in the past (as it would avoid any network activity). However, it would take up some extra space to store those images on your disk.
- UI Improvement and Bug Fixes - A lot of UI polish across the application and specifically for the chatroom has been done.
Hope you will continue to enjoy Flickroom!
Happy Flickrooming!
