1. How to login to Flickroom?
For the first time you are logging into Flickroom, you need to complete these four easy steps:
- Make sure that you have a Flickr/Yahoo account. If not, you can click on the button “No, Create one for me” and then fill in the required details in the form that gets loaded.
- Next, you need to login to your Flickr account. Why? Because you need to authorize Flickroom application to use your Flickr account – and for that you need to login to Flickr first.
- Click on “Yes. Do it now” to authorize Flickroom. In the Flickr page that is seen below, you need to click on the “Next” button below the text that says: “If you arrived at this page because you specifically asked Flickroom to connect to your Flickr account, click here:” After that, click on “OK, I’LL AUTHORIZE IT”.
- This is the last and easiest of all. Just click on “Yes, now get me in” and you are DONE.
For all successive launches of Flickroom, you need not perform the above steps. Flickroom caches all the data for you, unless you logout of the application (instead of simply closing it).
2. How to upload a photo?
There are three ways in which you can upload your photos using Flickroom:
- Open your photo stream in Flickroom and drag photos from your desktop into the application.
- Open any of your sets and drag photos from your desktop. This will upload the photos and also add them to that particular set.
- Open the upload manager (using the upload icon at the top
) and click on the Browse button there. Select photos in the file chooser dialog and they will be uploaded.
After the photos are uploaded, you can edit their title, description, tags by clicking on the ‘Edit Photo Details’ in the upload manager and then clicking on ‘Edit’ button in photo viewer.
3. How to comment on a photo?
Click on the comment button
and write your comment in the newly opened dialog. Basic text formatting options like Bold, Italics, and Underline and adding Hyperlinks is provided in this dialog box. Similarly, you can add notes as well by clicking on the note button tool.
4. How to see comments and other details of a photo?
Click on ‘Details’ button
available in photo viewer. It will open up a panel which contains description, comments, tags, EXIF data of that photo.
5. How to check out recent uploads of your contacts?
Click on the Activity icon
in the top navigation bar and then click open the “Recent uploads of contacts” section in the right panel. You can click on the thumbnails to pop open the images in a separate window. You also have an option of making the comment author’s photo visible by selecting the checkbox. This allows you to click on the avatar and set the room for that user.
6. How to make use of Settings Panel?
Settings panel
provides a set of preferences that you can save for your desired viewing experience. It contains options for photo background, photo’s default size, chatroom notifications etc. Any values that you set are available across your login sessions.
7. How to change the background of photo?
There is ‘Change background color’ button
available in the photo viewer. To keep the experience simple, it only provides two options – Gray and Black background. You just need to click on the small color button in the photo viewer’s toolbar.
8. How to improve the performance on a slow network?
By default the photo viewer downloads the ‘Large’ size of photos. This might result in sub-optimal experience if you are on a slow network. A simple solution here is to change the default size of the image that is shown. You can do this by choosing the image size from the drop-down
in the photo viewer or from the settings panel.
9. How to tweet about a photo?
Click on the twitter icon (‘t’) provided on the photo viewer’s toolbar
and it will open up a Tweet dialog. By default the photo url is included and you just need to input your Twitter credentials to tweet about the photo.
10. How to add a photo to a set or a group?
Click on the edit button available in the photo viewer’s toolbar
and it will open up an edit dialog using which you can edit title, description, tags of the photo. Also, you can add that photo to a set or a group you like.
11. How to see who else is using Flickroom?
Click on the chat icon
on the top navigation bar. It will open up Flickroom’s chatroom which also contains a list (Roster) of all the Flickroom users who are currently logged in.
12. How to see photo stream of a contact?
Click on ‘Contacts’ button and then click on the contact whose photo stream you want to see. This will set the room for that particular user – i.e. Photostream, Sets, Contacts, Groups and Explore pages would show content for that user.
13. How to search photos or Flickr users?
This can be easily done by clicking on the search icon
in the top navigation bar. Presently the search available is very basic – you can search for user with either their email addresses or their Flickr usernames.
14. How to go back to a contact or your page?
There is drop down icon shown immediately after the name of the Flickroom user (top left). Clicking on that will show up all the users that you have visited till now – switch to any of them is pretty straight-forward.
